What is Counseling
/i//handsinair.jpg Counseling is an opportunity for individuals, couples and families to explore the struggles of life whether simple or complex. Everyone has experienced setbacks, roadblocks and detours along the journey. Counselors help clients understand their choices and options allowing them to begin developing new possibilities. Counseling involves exploring those possibilities together in a safe, supportive environment. They work at a mutually agreed upon pace moving the client toward new insight, growth, healing and change.

Reasons that we avoid Counseling

We may believe that:

• we just need to be stronger.

• we just need to "get over it".

• we will have to give something up, and can't.

• we're not willing to let go of old beliefs, attitudes and habits.

• no one really cares anyway, why bother.

• no one could ever really understand our situation, circumstance and life.

"Sometimes we just need a little help"

Often people believe various things about counseling that keep them stuck and can create deeper struggles. We offer help from a caring, understanding and competent counselor who can move you beyond old beliefs and places of pain.

During the course of counseling it is common to experience emotional strains, discomfort and at times people may even feel worse as healing, growth and change take place. While recognizing this experience is common, we encourage clear and open communication in order to remain sensitive to the needs and concerns as counseling progresses.

It is essential that clients feel compassion and respect throughout the counseling process. We all need a little help and we need to know we don't have to face the problem alone.
